API 6A FC Gate Valve for Oil and Gas Wellhead High Pressure Fluid Pipeline Service

SGPE supplies API 6A FC Gate Valves for oil and gas wellheads, Christmas trees, surface test trees, flowheads, choke and kill manifolds, production manifolds, water-injection systems and gas-injection service.

The full-bore slab gate creates a straight through-conduit passage when fully open, helping maintain the required flow area while reducing direct exposure of the gate and seat sealing surfaces to high-velocity oil, gas, condensate, produced water, sand and scale.

Customers can select manual, gear-operated, hydraulic or pneumatic FC gate valves with flanged, studded, threaded or hub-and-clamp connections. SGPE matches the final configuration to the required bore, working pressure, material class, temperature range, PSL, PR level, sour-service conditions and operating method.

SGPE also supports replacement FC wellhead valve matching and spare-part supply, including gates, seats, stems, seals, bearings, handwheel parts and actuator repair kits.

Description

API 6A FC Gate Valve for Wellheads, Christmas Trees and Manifolds

SGPE supplies API 6A FC Gate Valves for high-pressure wellheads, Christmas trees, surface test trees, flowheads and oilfield manifold systems.

Buyers also refer to this product as an FC wellhead valve, full-bore slab gate valve, through-conduit gate valve, manual FC gate valve or hydraulic FC gate valve.

The valve uses a flat slab gate that travels vertically between two matching seat assemblies. When the valve opens completely, the gate port aligns with the body bore and forms a straight flow path. When the valve closes, the solid section of the gate moves across the bore and seals against the seats.

This arrangement gives crude oil, natural gas, condensate, produced water and compatible injection fluids a low-restriction passage through the valve. It also keeps the primary gate and seat sealing areas largely outside the production stream while the valve remains open.

As a result, high fluid velocity, formation sand, scale and other produced solids have less direct contact with the main sealing surfaces. Supported FC valve designs can also provide bidirectional pressure isolation, metal-to-metal sealing and replaceable internal components.

Customers can choose a handwheel, gearbox, hydraulic actuator or pneumatic actuator according to the valve location, operating torque, control system and shutdown philosophy.

Nominal size and pressure rating only begin the selection process. A suitable FC gate valve must also match the minimum bore, face-to-face dimension, end connections, material class, ambient temperature, fluid temperature, PSL, PR level, well-fluid composition, solids content and operating method.

How an API 6A FC Gate Valve Works

An API 6A FC Gate Valve controls the flow path by moving a flat slab gate between two seat assemblies.

During opening, the stem lifts or lowers the gate until the gate port aligns with the valve bore. The fluid then passes through the valve without a major change in direction or cross-sectional area.

During closing, the solid section of the gate moves between the seats and blocks the bore. Supported designs can isolate pressure from the wellbore side, the downstream system or either direction.

A typical assembly includes the pressure-containing body, bonnet, slab gate, seat assemblies, stem, stem packing, body seals, bonnet seals, bearings and operator. The exact arrangement varies by FC valve series and operating method.

The FC gate valve serves as an isolation valve. Operators should keep it fully open or fully closed during normal service. An adjustable choke, positive choke or another dedicated flow-control device should handle continuous pressure or flow regulation.

Main Features of an FC-Style Gate Valve

Full-Bore Through-Conduit Passage

The full-bore design keeps the valve opening close to the bore of the connected wellhead, Christmas tree, spool or manifold.

This geometry helps avoid an unwanted restriction and limits abrupt changes in fluid velocity. It works particularly well in high-rate gas production, surface well testing, production manifolds and injection systems.

The valve bore must still match the connecting equipment. A full-opening gate does not make the valve suitable when the minimum bore remains smaller than the required system bore.

Flat Slab Gate

An FC valve uses a flat slab gate rather than the wedge-shaped closure member found in many industrial gate valves.

The gate moves vertically between matching seats. In the fully open position, the main sealing surfaces remain largely outside the production flow, which reduces direct contact with high-velocity oil, gas and produced solids.

Bidirectional Pressure Isolation

Supported FC gate valve designs can isolate pressure from either direction.

This feature suits systems where pressure may come from the wellbore, production flowline, test separator, manifold header, water-injection line or gas-injection line.

The technical specification should define the required sealing direction, maximum differential pressure and leakage acceptance criteria.

Metal-to-Metal Sealing

Depending on the selected valve series, the gate and seats may use metal-to-metal sealing at the primary pressure-isolation interfaces.

This arrangement supports high working pressures, repeated operating cycles and demanding oilfield environments. The material class, temperature, fluid composition and validated valve design determine whether a particular sealing system suits the service.

Wear-Resistant Gate and Seat Surfaces

Sand, scale and corrosion products can accelerate wear at the gate and seat interfaces.

Where the service requires additional erosion resistance, the approved design may use tungsten carbide coating, cobalt-based hardfacing, nitrided surfaces, HVOF-applied coatings or another qualified overlay.

The base material, sealing geometry, fluid velocity, operating temperature and expected solids content determine the most suitable treatment. SGPE includes a coating or overlay only when the approved manufacturing and inspection procedures support it.

Stem Backseat

Selected FC valve designs include a stem backseat that provides secondary isolation around the stem when the valve reaches the specified position.

The backseat can support stem-seal maintenance planning. Technicians must not replace packing under pressure unless the approved valve design and site procedure specifically allow the work.

Lubricant or Sealant Injection

The body or bonnet can include a lubricant or sealant injection fitting.

Maintenance personnel can introduce an approved oilfield valve lubricant or sealing compound to reduce operating friction or support sealing performance during maintenance.

Injection remains a maintenance aid. It does not replace correct installation, regular inspection or timely repair.

Replaceable Internal Components

Maintenance teams can replace the gate, seat assemblies, stem, packing, body seals, bonnet seals, bearings and selected operator parts during a planned overhaul.

This serviceable construction may extend the useful life of the valve when inspection confirms that the pressure-containing body remains suitable for continued operation.

Common API 6A FC Gate Valve Enquiries

Buyers often describe full-bore wellhead gate valves by bore size, working pressure and installation position.

Common Buyer Description Typical Application
2-1/16 in. 5,000 psi FC Gate Valve Production wellhead and Christmas tree
2-1/16 in. 10,000 psi FC Gate Valve High-pressure tree and manifold isolation
2-9/16 in. 5,000 psi Wellhead Gate Valve Oil and gas production tree
2-9/16 in. 10,000 psi API 6A Gate Valve High-pressure production service
3-1/16 in. 10,000 psi Slab Gate Valve Wellhead, surface test tree and flowhead
4-1/16 in. 5,000 psi Full-Bore Gate Valve Production and injection systems
4-1/16 in. 10,000 psi FC Gate Valve Large-bore wellhead and manifold
15,000 psi FC Gate Valve Selected high-pressure wellhead applications
20,000 psi API 6A Gate Valve Selected validated high-pressure designs

These examples do not represent a fixed SGPE manufacturing matrix. SGPE checks each requested configuration against the available valve design, material class, end connection, operator and validation status.

For accurate selection, the enquiry should confirm the minimum bore, face-to-face dimension, ring groove, flange or hub dimensions, overall height, approximate weight, operating torque, handwheel turns and actuator interface.

Temperature Selection

The required API 6A temperature rating must reflect both the project’s minimum ambient temperature and maximum fluid temperature.

Selection should also account for gas expansion cooling, rapid depressurization, well-test temperature cycles, offshore winter exposure, desert conditions and the limits of packing, elastomers and actuator seals.

The minimum ambient temperature may control body toughness and seal selection, while the maximum produced-fluid temperature may control trim, packing and actuator materials.

The approved datasheet should state the actual design temperatures. A temperature class or code alone does not prove that the complete valve suits the application.

Material and Sour-Service Selection

An API 6A material class defines requirements for pressure-containing, pressure-controlling and wetted components. It does not represent one fixed material grade or one universal bill of materials.

Final material selection depends on the working and test pressure, minimum and maximum temperature, H₂S and CO₂ content, water and chloride levels, corrosion and erosion risk, hardness limits, chemical-injection program, required NACE scope and applicable project specification.

Depending on the approved design, component materials may include heat-treated alloy steel, martensitic stainless steel, precipitation-hardening stainless steel, F6NM, nickel-alloy components, Alloy 625 overlay or carbide-coated sealing surfaces.

SGPE includes these materials and processes only when the approved datasheet, manufacturing procedure and quality records support them.

Sour-Service and NACE Data

A general statement such as “H₂S service” does not provide enough information for final valve selection.

H₂S, CO₂, water and chlorides can affect the body, bonnet, gate, seats, stem, bolting, packing and seals. The technical review should begin with the actual fluid composition and operating conditions.

Required Service Data Selection Purpose
H₂S Concentration Helps define the sour-service environment
H₂S Partial Pressure Supports the material and NACE assessment
CO₂ Concentration Indicates additional corrosion risk
Water Content Identifies whether a corrosive aqueous phase may form
Chloride Concentration Influences pitting and stress-corrosion risk
Maximum Working Pressure Defines the pressure-containing design basis
Minimum Ambient Temperature Affects material toughness and seal selection
Maximum Fluid Temperature Affects trim, packing and elastomer selection
Chemical Injection Details Confirms compatibility with injected chemicals
Required Standard Defines the required NACE MR0175 or ISO 15156 scope

Severe sour, offshore or high-chloride service may require CRA components, Alloy 625 overlay or another project-specific corrosion-resistant material arrangement.

The approved bill of materials should clearly identify the pressure-containing, pressure-controlling and wetted components.

Manual, Hydraulic and Pneumatic FC Gate Valves

Operator Type Typical Use Main Selection Data
Manual Handwheel Local wellhead, tree or manifold isolation Operating torque, handwheel direction and available space
Gear Operator Larger bore or higher manual torque Input torque, output torque, turns and position indication
Double-Acting Hydraulic Remote opening and closing Supply pressure, stroke time and control schematic
Spring-Return Hydraulic Fail-safe wellhead or test-system isolation Fail-safe direction, shutdown time and supply pressure
Pneumatic Actuator Automated production or manifold system Air pressure, stroke time and hazardous-area requirements
Actuator-Ready Valve Customer-selected actuator package Stem interface, mounting pattern and required thrust

Manual FC Gate Valve

A manual FC gate valve uses a handwheel to move the stem and slab gate.

It suits accessible isolation points on manual Christmas trees, wellhead side outlets, production wings, kill wings, swab valve positions, injection wellheads and test manifolds.

Where direct operation requires excessive effort, a gearbox can reduce the required handwheel torque.

Hydraulic FC Gate Valve

A hydraulic FC gate valve supports remote operation from a wellhead control panel, emergency shutdown system or hydraulic power unit.

The actuator may use a double-acting or spring-return arrangement. Depending on the shutdown philosophy, a spring-return actuator can provide fail-safe-close or fail-safe-open operation.

Manual overrides, local position indicators, limit switches and remote position feedback can form part of the actuator package.

Hydraulic FC gate valves commonly serve as master valves, production wing valves, surface test tree valves, flowhead valves and automated manifold isolation valves.

Pneumatic FC Gate Valve

A pneumatic actuator uses instrument air or another approved gas supply.

Actuator selection should account for the available pressure, required thrust, valve operating torque, stroke time, fail-safe action, ambient temperature, hazardous-area classification and feedback requirements.

FC Gate Valve End Connections

Connection Type Typical Installation Details to Confirm
API Flanged Wellhead, Christmas tree, spool or manifold Size, pressure rating, flange type and ring groove
Studded Compact tree, spool or block-body assembly Stud size, thread, ring groove and mating dimensions
Hub-and-Clamp Test tree, flowhead or temporary production package Hub profile, clamp size, seal ring and working pressure
Threaded Selected small-bore configurations Thread type, pin or box end and pressure limitation
Special or Block-Body End Compact manifold or custom equipment Complete drawing and interface dimensions

API Flanged FC Gate Valve

API flanged FC gate valves connect to casing heads, tubing heads, tubing spools, Christmas trees, adapter spools, surface test trees and manifold equipment.

Depending on the connection size and working pressure, the valve may use a Type R, RX or BX ring-joint arrangement. The enquiry should identify the ring groove, mating equipment and required face-to-face dimension.

Studded FC Gate Valve

A studded connection can reduce the overall height or length of a compact wellhead, Christmas tree or manifold assembly.

The interface review should cover the stud size, thread specification, ring groove, mating face and available assembly space.

Hub-and-Clamp FC Gate Valve

Hub-and-clamp connections support faster assembly and removal in surface test trees, flowheads, temporary production systems, well cleanup packages and offshore well-test equipment.

The hub profile, clamp size, seal ring and working pressure must match the connecting equipment.

API 6A FC Gate Valve Applications

Wellheads and Christmas Trees

An FC wellhead gate valve isolates pressure between the wellbore and connected surface equipment.

Common installation points include casing-head side outlets, tubing-head outlets, tubing spool outlets, annulus access lines and injection connections.

On a Christmas tree, the valve can serve as a lower master valve, upper master valve, production wing valve, kill wing valve, swab valve or annulus valve.

The selected valve must match the tree bore, working pressure, material class, temperature requirements, end connections and operating philosophy.

Surface Test Trees and Flowheads

Manual or hydraulic FC gate valves provide isolation during drill stem testing, exploration and appraisal testing, extended well testing, well cleanup, temporary production, flowback and well intervention.

Where the project requires emergency remote closure, the hydraulic actuator can connect to the shutdown system.

Choke and Kill Manifolds

FC gate valves isolate manifold inlets, outlets, branches and bypass lines.

The gate valve controls isolation, while the choke regulates pressure or flow. Selection should therefore account for manifold pressure, differential pressure, fluid velocity, H₂S conditions, solids content, end connections and operating frequency.

Production and Gathering Manifolds

Full-bore slab gate valves isolate individual wells, gathering lines and production headers.

The straight flow passage suits installations where the valve stays open during normal production and closes only when the operator needs to isolate a well or branch.

Water-Injection Systems

Water-injection service requires careful review of chloride content, dissolved oxygen, treatment chemicals, injection pressure, water temperature and corrosion risk.

These conditions influence the material system, trim, sealing arrangement and corrosion-protection requirements.

Gas-Injection Systems

Gas-injection valve selection should account for gas composition, maximum pressure, minimum temperature, rapid decompression risk, H₂S content, CO₂ content and shutdown function.

Drilling, Completion and Workover Equipment

Selected FC gate valve configurations can support surface pressure-control equipment used during drilling, completion, workover, well intervention, well killing and pressure testing.

The valve must fit the complete equipment arrangement, project standard and approved operating procedure.

How to Select an API 6A FC Gate Valve

1. Identify the Valve Position

Confirm whether the valve will serve as a master valve, wing valve, swab valve, annulus valve, side-outlet valve, test tree valve, flowhead valve or manifold isolation valve.

Its position affects the dimensions, operator, fail-safe action and maintenance access.

2. Confirm the Bore and Working Pressure

Provide the nominal bore, minimum bore, working pressure, maximum operating pressure and required test pressure.

The valve bore should match the connected wellhead, tree, spool or manifold. An undersized bore can create an unwanted restriction and increase internal fluid velocity.

3. Define the End Connections

State the connection size, pressure rating, connection type, ring groove, ring number and face-to-face dimension.

A drawing of the mating equipment helps confirm the mechanical interface and available installation space.

4. Specify PSL and PR

PSL defines manufacturing controls, material traceability, inspection, testing and documentation requirements.

PR relates to design validation. PR2 does not automatically cover every bore, pressure, material class, connection or operator combination.

The quotation should identify the applicable PR level for the selected validated design.

5. Provide the Service Conditions

State the required material class, minimum ambient temperature and maximum fluid temperature.

For sour or corrosive service, also provide the H₂S and CO₂ content, water and chloride levels, sand or solids content and required NACE standard.

6. Select the Operator

Confirm whether the valve requires a manual handwheel, gearbox, hydraulic actuator or pneumatic actuator.

For an actuated valve, also state the supply pressure, fail-safe direction, required stroke time, manual override, position indication, limit switches and remote feedback.

FC Gate Valve vs FLS Gate Valve

FC and FLS identify different full-bore slab gate valve families used in oil and gas wellhead service.

Comparison Item FC-Style Gate Valve FLS-Style Gate Valve
General Design Full-bore slab gate Full-bore slab gate
Typical Application Wellhead, tree and manifold isolation Wellhead, tree and manifold isolation
Service Range Depends on the validated FC series Depends on the validated FLS series
Gate and Seat Design FC-series-specific FLS-series-specific
Stem and Bonnet Series-specific Series-specific
Face-to-Face Dimension Must be verified Must be verified
Actuator Interface Series-specific Series-specific
Spare-Part Compatibility Not automatically interchangeable Not automatically interchangeable

Do not assume that FC and FLS valves are interchangeable.

Two valves with the same nominal bore and working pressure may still use different ring grooves, body dimensions, bonnet heights, stem connections, operating torques or actuator interfaces.

Replacement FC Gate Valve Review

SGPE reviews complete replacement FC gate valves as well as matching gates, seats, stems, seals, handwheel components and actuator repair kits.

The FC family name alone does not confirm compatibility. Two 2-1/16 in. 10,000 psi manual FC gate valves, for example, may use different ring grooves, face-to-face dimensions or bonnet arrangements.

Required Information Review Purpose
Existing Nameplate Confirms model, size, pressure rating and serial number

End Connection Details Confirms the flange, studded or hub arrangement
Ring Groove or Ring Number Confirms the sealing interface
Stem and Operator Details Confirms the handwheel or actuator connection
Clear Photographs Supports visual comparison
Existing Spare-Part Numbers Supports internal component identification

In replacement projects, the face-to-face dimension, ring groove and stem interface often provide more useful evidence than the model name alone.

Quality Control, Testing and Documentation

The inspection and documentation scope should follow the approved datasheet, PSL, PR level, material class and purchase order.

Inspection or Document Purpose
Material Test Certificates Verify chemical and mechanical properties
Heat-Number Traceability Link components to material records
Heat-Treatment Records Confirm the required thermal process
Hardness Testing Verify material and sour-service limits

Coating Inspection Check external coating and hardfacing requirements
General Arrangement Drawing Confirm dimensions and configuration
Certificate of Conformity Confirm compliance with the approved order
Operation and Maintenance Manual Support installation, operation and repair
Spare-Parts List Identify routine and overhaul components

SGPE can coordinate third-party inspection by SGS, BV, DNV, ABS, TÜV or another nominated agency when the purchase order requires it.

API Monogram marking applies only when the approved quotation states the requirement and the applicable licensed manufacturing scope covers the ordered equipment.

Installation and Operating Guidelines

Before installation, verify the bore, working pressure, material class, temperature requirements, end connections, ring groove, face-to-face dimension, operator type and fail-safe direction.

Inspect the flange faces, ring grooves, hubs, seal rings and threaded areas. Remove the transport covers and clean the valve bore before assembly.

Use the specified gasket, clamp, studs, nuts and tightening procedure. Do not use the valve body to pull misaligned wellhead, tree or manifold components into position.

For an actuated valve, confirm the supply pressure, full stroke, opening and closing direction, fail-safe position, manual override, position indication and remote feedback before commissioning.

Keep the valve fully open or fully closed during normal service. Do not use an FC gate valve for continuous throttling.

Avoid striking the handwheel or using unauthorized extension bars. Excessive torque can damage the stem, bearings or operator components.

A noticeable increase in operating torque, opening time or closing time may indicate solids buildup, increased friction, seal damage or an actuator problem.

Maintenance and FC Gate Valve Spare Parts

Set the maintenance interval according to the service fluid, operating frequency, climate and site maintenance program.

Routine checks should cover the stem packing, external sealing areas, handwheel or gearbox, actuator, lubricant fittings, hydraulic or pneumatic lines, flange bolting, coating and external corrosion.

Carry out full-stroke function checks and pressure tests according to the approved maintenance procedure.

Before dismantling the valve, isolate the well or manifold section, release trapped pressure, drain the cavity and confirm a zero-energy condition.

Spare-Part Group Typical Components
Sealing Internals Gate, seat assemblies, body seals and bonnet seals
Stem Components Stem, packing, gland and backseat parts
Bearing Components Thrust bearings, bearing races and bushings
Manual Operator Parts Handwheel, stem adapter and retaining components
Hydraulic Actuator Kit Piston seals, rod seals, O-rings and wear rings
Pneumatic Actuator Kit Diaphragm or piston seals and guide components
Lubrication Components Grease fittings, sealant fittings and check valves
Overhaul Package Sealing, bearing and operator repair components

Customers can order individual FC gate valve parts, routine repair kits, major overhaul kits or two-year operating spare packages.

Why Source API 6A FC Gate Valves from SGPE?

SGPE reviews the complete oilfield application instead of selecting a valve from nominal size and working pressure alone.

The review covers the installation position, minimum bore, end connections, material class, temperature requirements, PSL, PR level, sour-service conditions, hardfacing, operating method, inspection scope and replacement compatibility.

The supply range can include manual, gear-operated, hydraulic and pneumatic FC gate valves with flanged, studded, threaded or hub-and-clamp connections.

SGPE can also supply replacement gates, seats, stems, seal kits, actuator repair kits, companion flanges, ring gaskets, studs and nuts. For a new project, send the valve datasheet and equipment arrangement. For a replacement project, send the existing nameplate, dimensions, drawings and photographs.

Frequently Asked Questions About API 6A FC Gate Valves

1. What is an API 6A FC Gate Valve?

An API 6A FC Gate Valve is a full-bore slab gate valve designed for on-off pressure isolation in oil and gas wellhead equipment. A flat gate moves between two seat assemblies, and the gate port aligns with the valve bore when the valve opens completely.

Operators commonly install FC wellhead gate valves as lower master valves, upper master valves, production wing valves, kill wing valves, swab valves and annulus isolation valves. They also use them on surface test trees, flowheads, choke and kill manifolds, production manifolds, water-injection wellheads and gas-injection systems.

The required configuration depends on the bore, working pressure, end connections, material class, temperature range, PSL, PR level, well-fluid composition and operating method.

2. Can an FC Gate Valve be used for throttling or flow regulation?

No. An FC Gate Valve should normally remain fully open or fully closed because its primary function is pressure isolation.

Partial opening can expose the gate and seat areas to concentrated fluid velocity, turbulence, sand and erosion. Over time, this can damage the sealing surfaces and reduce shutoff performance.

Where the system requires continuous pressure or flow control, use an adjustable choke valve, positive choke valve or another purpose-designed flow-control device. On a choke manifold, the FC gate valve isolates the selected branch while the choke controls downstream pressure or flow rate.

3. How does an FC Gate Valve differ from an industrial wedge gate valve?

An FC Gate Valve uses a flat slab gate and a full-bore through-conduit passage developed for high-pressure oilfield service. When fully open, the gate port aligns with the body bore and moves the main sealing surfaces away from the production flow.

An industrial gate valve often uses a wedge-shaped closure member and may follow different dimensional, material, connection and testing standards.

API 6A FC Gate Valves may also require ring-joint flanges, API material classes, PSL documentation, PR design validation, sour-service materials, hard-faced sealing surfaces and fail-safe hydraulic actuators. These requirements make the valve suitable for wellheads, Christmas trees, surface test equipment and high-pressure manifold systems.

4. Are FC and FLS Gate Valves interchangeable?

Not automatically.

FC and FLS valve families may use different gate and seat designs, stem arrangements, bonnet dimensions, ring grooves, face-to-face dimensions, operating torques and actuator interfaces. Their internal parts and repair kits may also differ.

Before replacing one family with the other, compare the existing nameplate, general arrangement drawing, ring groove, face-to-face dimension, stem connection, operator arrangement and mating equipment. The model name alone cannot confirm compatibility.

5. What API 6A FC Gate Valve sizes and pressure ratings are available?

Common enquiries cover nominal bore sizes from approximately 1-13/16 in. to 7-1/16 in., with frequently requested working pressures of 3,000 psi, 5,000 psi, 10,000 psi and 15,000 psi. Selected validated designs may cover higher-pressure applications.

Frequently requested configurations include 2-1/16 in. 5,000 psi FC Gate Valves for production wellheads, 2-1/16 in. 10,000 psi valves for high-pressure Christmas trees, 3-1/16 in. 10,000 psi slab gate valves for surface test trees and 4-1/16 in. 10,000 psi wellhead gate valves for large-bore production or manifold service.

Not every bore can pair with every pressure rating, material class, connection, PSL or PR level. SGPE confirms final availability against the selected FC valve series and validated design range.

6. Can an FC Gate Valve provide bidirectional metal-to-metal sealing?

Supported FC Gate Valve designs can provide bidirectional pressure isolation and metal-to-metal sealing.

This capability suits Christmas trees, production manifolds, surface test systems and injection lines where pressure may come from more than one direction.

The enquiry should identify the required sealing direction, maximum differential pressure, hydrostatic seat-test requirement, gas-test requirement and permitted leakage rate. SGPE confirms bidirectional and metal-to-metal sealing only when the approved valve design includes those features.

7. Should I choose a manual, gear-operated, hydraulic or pneumatic FC Gate Valve?

A manual FC Gate Valve suits accessible wellhead, Christmas tree or manifold locations where operators can open and close the valve locally. A gearbox can reduce handwheel effort when the valve design or pressure differential creates high torque.

A hydraulic FC Gate Valve supports remote operation, emergency shutdown and automated well control. Hydraulic valves often serve as master valves, production wing valves, surface test tree valves, flowhead valves and manifold isolation valves. Double-acting and spring-return actuators can provide the required operating and fail-safe function.

A pneumatic FC Gate Valve suits automated production and manifold systems with a suitable instrument-air supply. Actuator selection must account for supply pressure, required thrust, operating torque, stroke time, fail-safe action, ambient temperature, hazardous-area classification and position feedback.

8. Can SGPE supply an FC Gate Valve for H₂S or sour service?

SGPE can review sour-service FC Gate Valves for wellheads, Christmas trees, surface test trees and manifolds that handle H₂S-containing oil or gas.

A general request for “NACE service” or “H₂S service” does not provide enough information for material selection. The review should include H₂S concentration and partial pressure, CO₂ content, water content, chloride concentration, working pressure, minimum ambient temperature, maximum fluid temperature and chemical-injection program.

Depending on the project, the final valve may require controlled hardness, corrosion-resistant trim, F6NM components, nickel-alloy parts, Alloy 625 overlay or another qualified material system. The project specification and approved bill of materials must define the applicable NACE MR0175 or ISO 15156 scope.

9. What do PSL, PR1 and PR2 mean for an API 6A FC Gate Valve?

PSL means Product Specification Level. It defines applicable requirements for material traceability, manufacturing control, heat treatment, nondestructive examination, pressure testing, documentation and quality records.

PR means Performance Requirement Level and relates to design validation. PR1 and PR2 are not simple manufacturing options that apply automatically to every valve.

A PR2-qualified design does not necessarily cover every bore, pressure, material class, temperature range, end connection and actuator arrangement. The quotation and approved datasheet should identify the applicable PSL and confirm whether the requested configuration falls within the validated PR scope.

10. Which end connections are available for an FC Gate Valve?

API 6A FC Gate Valves may use flanged, studded, threaded or hub-and-clamp end connections, depending on the selected valve series and installation.

Flanged FC Gate Valves commonly connect to casing heads, tubing heads, tubing spools, Christmas trees, adapter spools and production manifolds. Depending on size and pressure, the connection may use a Type R, RX or BX ring-joint arrangement.

Studded connections suit compact Christmas trees, block-body assemblies and wellhead spools where installation space is limited. Hub-and-clamp connections work well on surface test trees, flowheads, well cleanup packages and temporary production systems because they support faster assembly and removal.

The enquiry should identify the connection size, working pressure, ring groove, ring number, face-to-face dimension and mating equipment.

11. Can SGPE supply replacement FC Gate Valves and spare parts?

Yes. SGPE reviews complete replacement FC Gate Valves as well as gates, seat assemblies, stems, packing, body seals, bonnet seals, bearings, handwheel parts and hydraulic or pneumatic actuator repair kits.

The existing model description only provides part of the information required for replacement. The nameplate, serial number, face-to-face dimension, end connections, ring groove, minimum bore, stem interface and operator arrangement often determine compatibility more accurately.

Send the existing valve nameplate, general arrangement drawing, installation dimensions, photographs and available spare-part numbers. SGPE will use this information to determine whether the project requires a direct replacement, an adapter, a modified operator interface or an alternative valve configuration.

12. What information is required for an API 6A FC Gate Valve quotation?

An accurate FC Gate Valve quotation should identify the quantity, installation position, nominal bore, minimum bore, working pressure, maximum operating pressure and required test pressure.

The enquiry should also state the end connections, ring groove, ring number, face-to-face dimension, material class, minimum ambient temperature, maximum fluid temperature, PSL, PR level and required operator.

For a manual valve, include the available operating space and maximum acceptable handwheel torque when relevant. For a hydraulic or pneumatic valve, include the supply pressure, fail-safe direction, opening and closing time, manual override, position indication, limit switches and remote feedback requirements.

For sour, corrosive, water-injection or gas-injection service, provide the H₂S and CO₂ content, water and chloride levels, solids content, chemical-injection details and required NACE or ISO 15156 scope. For a replacement project, include the existing nameplate, drawing, dimensions and clear photographs.
