Product Overview

A Drilling Mud Desander performs the secondary sand-removal stage in a drilling fluid solids control system.

Returning drilling mud first passes through the primary shale shaker. The shaker removes larger drilled cuttings, but smaller abrasive formation particles can pass through the screens and remain in circulation.

A centrifugal pump feeds this mud into the desander hydrocyclones. Tangential entry creates a rapidly rotating vortex inside each cone. Centrifugal force moves heavier solids toward the hydrocyclone wall, where they spiral downward and leave through the apex as concentrated underflow.

Cleaner drilling fluid moves toward the center of the vortex and exits through the overflow. It then returns to the active mud system or continues to the next treatment stage.

Removing the sand-sized fraction at this point lowers the abrasive load reaching desilters, mud cleaners and decanter centrifuges. It also helps control drilled-solids buildup, reduce equipment wear and maintain more stable drilling fluid properties.

SGPE supplies complete Mud Desander Units for new drilling packages, rig upgrades, mud-system refurbishment and replacement projects.

The 120, 240 and 360 m³/h values are commonly used nominal metric project classes. They are not exact conversions of 500, 1000 and 1500 US GPM.

500, 1000 and 1500 GPM Drilling Mud Desander Configurations

SGPE uses one, two or three 10-inch hydrocyclones to match different drilling mud circulation rates.

Nominal Capacity Hydrocyclone Arrangement Cone Diameter Nominal Flow per Cone Typical Application
500 GPM Desander 1 × Hydrocyclone 10 in. Approx. 500 GPM Compact land rigs and lower-flow surface-hole systems
1000 GPM Desander 2 × Hydrocyclones 10 in. Approx. 500 GPM/cone Conventional land rigs, directional wells and offshore drilling
1500 GPM Desander 3 × Hydrocyclones 10 in. Approx. 500 GPM/cone Large-hole sections, high-ROP drilling and higher-flow offshore systems

Nominal GPM gives a useful starting point, but it should not be the only basis for equipment selection.

Mud density, viscosity, hole diameter, ROP, expected solids loading, pump performance, suction conditions, piping resistance and available installation space all influence the final configuration.

For buyers comparing a 500 GPM, 1000 GPM or 1500 GPM Oilfield Desander, actual drilling fluid circulation data provides a more reliable basis than catalogue capacity alone.

For flow reference:

US Flow Approximate Metric Conversion
500 US GPM 113.6 m³/h / 31.5 L/s
1000 US GPM 227.1 m³/h / 63.1 L/s
1500 US GPM 340.7 m³/h / 94.6 L/s

Actual hydrocyclone performance changes with mud density, viscosity, solids concentration, feed condition, apex condition and internal wear. The cone bank, centrifugal pump and piping should therefore be evaluated as one hydraulic system.

How Does a Drilling Mud Hydrocyclone Desander Work?

A Hydrocyclone Separator for Drilling Mud uses centrifugal force rather than mechanical screening to separate sand-sized solids.

The feed pump sends drilling fluid into each hydrocyclone through a tangential inlet. This entry creates a rapidly rotating vortex.

Heavier formation particles move toward the outer wall and spiral downward to the apex. Cleaner fluid moves toward the center, forms an upward internal vortex and leaves through the overflow outlet.

The hydrocyclone contains no rotating internal mechanical parts. Its mechanical structure remains relatively simple, but stable hydraulic conditions are essential for reliable separation.

Feed pressure, circulation rate, mud density, viscosity and solids concentration all affect performance. Apex condition, vortex finder condition and cone wear also influence the actual cut point.

For this reason, correct feed-pump selection is just as important as hydrocyclone quantity.

Position in the Drilling Fluid Solids Control System

A typical drilling fluid treatment sequence is:

Drilling Shale Shaker → Vacuum Degasser → Drilling Mud Desander → Desilter or Drilling Mud Cleaner → Decanter Centrifuge

Stage Equipment Main Function
1 Drilling Shale Shaker Removes Large Drilled Cuttings
2 Vacuum Degasser Removes Entrained Gas When Required
3 Drilling Mud Desander Removes Sand-Sized Abrasive Solids
4 Desilter / Drilling Mud Cleaner Removes Finer Solids and Recovers Drilling Fluid
5 Decanter Centrifuge Fine-Solids Control and Mud Conditioning

The shale shaker removes larger drilled solids before the mud reaches the hydrocyclones. The Oilfield Desander then targets the smaller sand-sized fraction that passes through the shaker screens.

This staged arrangement keeps unnecessary coarse solids away from finer downstream equipment and allows each solids-control stage to work within its intended separation range.

SGPE can supply the desander as an individual machine or as part of a complete oilfield solids control equipment package.

Why Sand Removal Matters in Drilling Fluid Treatment

Drilling continuously generates formation solids. Some particles remain in circulation even after the mud passes through the primary shale shaker.

If these solids accumulate, they can raise mud density, increase plastic viscosity, add hydraulic pressure losses and increase dilution demand. Abrasive particles also accelerate wear throughout the circulating system.

Mud-System Area Possible Effect of Excessive Solids Desander Contribution
Mud Density Unwanted Increase Removes Formation Solids
Plastic Viscosity Increased Viscosity Reduces Solids Buildup
Hydraulics Higher Pressure Losses Supports Cleaner Mud
Hole Cleaning Less Controlled Rheology Supports Designed Mud Properties
Centrifugal Pumps Abrasive Wear Reduces Sand Loading
Mud Pumps Fluid-End Wear Reduces Abrasive Circulation
Valves and Piping Erosion Removes Abrasive Particles
Mud Cleaner Excessive Upstream Load Removes Coarser Solids First
Centrifuge Unnecessary Coarse Feed Improves Feed Condition
Mud Dilution Higher Dilution Demand Supports Solids Management

A correctly selected Drilling Fluid Sand Separator removes much of this abrasive fraction before it reaches finer treatment equipment.

Direct-Discharge Desander vs. Drilling Mud Desander with Shaker

SGPE manufactures both direct-discharge Mud Desander Units and systems with underflow recovery shakers.

Configuration Direct-Discharge Desander Desander with Recovery Shaker
Hydrocyclone Yes Yes
Underflow Screen No Yes
Main Objective Sand Removal Sand Removal + Mud Recovery
Footprint Smaller Larger
Electrical Demand Lower Higher
Moving Components Fewer Includes Vibration System
Unweighted WBM Strong Application Available
Weighted WBM Less Preferred Recommended
OBM / SBM Less Preferred Recommended
High-Value Offshore Mud Limited Recovery Strong Application
Fluid Recovery Lower Higher

A direct-discharge system sends concentrated hydrocyclone underflow directly to the solids discharge area. It has fewer moving components, requires no recovery screens and occupies less space.

This arrangement works well in many conventional unweighted WBM applications.

A Drilling Mud Desander with Shaker adds a vibrating recovery screen beneath the hydrocyclones. The cones concentrate the drilled solids first. The underflow then lands on the screen, where rejected particles discharge while reusable drilling fluid passes through and returns to the active system.

Recovery screening becomes more valuable with weighted WBM, OBM, SBM and other higher-value mud systems.

WBM, Weighted WBM, OBM and SBM Desander Selection

Drilling Fluid Recommended Configuration Main Design Priority
Unweighted WBM Direct Discharge / Recovery Shaker High-Capacity Sand Removal
Weighted WBM Recovery Shaker Preferred Recover Fluid and Weighting Material
OBM Recovery Shaker Reduce High-Value Mud Loss
SBM Recovery Shaker Fluid Recovery and Offshore Integration
High-Density Mud Recovery Configuration Retain Valuable Drilling Fluid
High-ROP Mud System High-Capacity Cone Bank Manage Increased Solids Loading

For unweighted Water-Based Mud, direct discharge often provides a simple and efficient secondary separation stage.

Weighted WBM needs more attention to fluid recovery because hydrocyclone underflow can carry both unwanted formation solids and useful mud components.

Oil-Based Mud and Synthetic-Based Mud usually justify recovery screening because fluid loss carries a higher operating cost. This becomes especially important on offshore rigs and in directional, horizontal and extended-reach drilling programs.

Drilling Mud Desander Applications

SGPE supplies Drilling Rig Mud Desanders for both land and offshore drilling environments.

Land-rig applications include surface-hole drilling, large-diameter holes, intermediate-hole sections, vertical wells, directional wells, horizontal wells, high-ROP drilling and deep wells.

Offshore Drilling Mud Desander packages serve fixed platforms, jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles and drillships.

Application Main Operating Challenge Recommended Design Focus
Land Drilling Rig Variable Flow and Hole Sections Easy Maintenance and Tank Integration
Offshore Platform Restricted Deck Space Compact Package and Corrosion Protection
Jack-Up Rig Continuous Offshore Drilling Reliability and Fluid Recovery
Semi-Submersible Higher Offshore Mud Flow High-Capacity Hydrocyclone Bank
Drillship High-Value Drilling Fluid Compact Layout and Recovery Shaker
Surface / Large Hole High Flow and Solids Volume 1000–1500 GPM Class
High-ROP Drilling Rapid Solids Generation Dual / Triple Cone
Directional / Horizontal Well Hydraulic and Rheology Control Continuous Solids Removal
Extended-Reach / Deep Well Long Circulation Periods Staged Solids Control
Weighted WBM / OBM / SBM Higher Mud Value Enhanced Fluid Recovery

Surface-hole and large-hole sections often generate the highest drilled-solids volumes. High ROP increases this load further, so dual- or triple-cone arrangements often suit these sections.

Directional, horizontal and extended-reach wells keep drilling fluid in circulation for longer periods. Continuous removal of abrasive sand-sized particles helps control solids loading before the mud reaches finer separation equipment.

Offshore packages must also account for deck space, mud-tank arrangement, feed-pump location, equipment height, maintenance access, piping orientation, solids discharge direction, corrosion protection and hazardous-area requirements.

Desander Feed Pump and Hydraulic Requirements

A hydrocyclone cannot generate its own feed pressure. The Desander Feed Pump must provide enough flow and hydraulic head to maintain a stable vortex inside every active cone.

Pump selection depends on processing capacity, hydrocyclone quantity, mud density and viscosity. Suction conditions, line diameter, pipe length, elevation difference, fittings, valves and total pressure loss also matter.

Typical feed pressure for the systems covered here falls around 0.25–0.40 MPa, equal to 2.5–4.0 bar or approximately 36–58 psi.

An undersized pump weakens separation performance. Excessive pressure can accelerate cone wear and increase unnecessary liquid discharge through the underflow.

SGPE therefore matches the centrifugal feed pump and hydrocyclone bank as one hydraulic package.

Hydrocyclone Operation and Troubleshooting

A correctly operating hydrocyclone normally produces an open spray or umbrella-shaped underflow.

A narrow rope-type discharge can indicate excessive solids loading, a restricted apex, incorrect feed pressure, high feed concentration, blockage or internal wear.

Observation Possible Cause Recommended Check
Open Umbrella Underflow Normal Operation Continue Monitoring
Rope-Type Discharge High Solids Load / Restricted Apex Inspect Apex and Solids Concentration
Weak Underflow Low Hydraulic Energy Check Pump and Feed Pressure
Excessive Liquid Underflow Pressure / Apex Condition Check Hydraulic Condition
Uneven Cone Performance Manifold Restriction Inspect Individual Cone Feed
Frequent Blockage Oversized Solids Entering Cone Check Upstream Shale Shaker
Reduced Separation Internal Wear Inspect Cone, Apex and Vortex Finder
Pump Cavitation Poor Suction Check Mud Level and Suction Line
Manifold Leakage Seal / Connection Issue Inspect Clamps, Seals and Fittings

Feed pressure and underflow pattern should be evaluated together. Neither indicator gives a complete picture on its own.

10 Inch Hydrocyclone Cones and Desander Spare Parts

SGPE uses wear-resistant polyurethane for its standard 10-inch desander hydrocyclones.

The material provides good resistance to abrasion and corrosion while keeping individual cone components relatively light and straightforward to replace.

Hydrocyclones remain wear components. Continuous exposure to abrasive formation solids gradually changes their internal geometry, so routine inspection remains important.

Replacement supply can include complete hydrocyclones, apex components, vortex finders, seals and clamps.

Customers looking for Drilling Mud Desander spare parts, replacement hydrocyclone cones or a 10 Inch Desander Cone supplier can source complete equipment and maintenance components from SGPE.

Drilling Mud Desander vs. Desilter, Mud Cleaner and Shale Shaker

Comparison Drilling Mud Desander Desilter Drilling Mud Cleaner
Main Function Sand Removal Finer Silt Removal Desanding + Desilting + Recovery
Typical Cone Size 10 in. Approx. 4 in. 10 in. + 4 in.
Main Stage Secondary Finer Downstream Stage Integrated Treatment
Flow per Cone Higher Lower Combined

Sand Removal Strong Limited Strong
Finer Solids Removal Limited Stronger Stronger
Weighted WBM Recovery Shaker Preferred Project Specific Strong Application
OBM / SBM Recovery Shaker Preferred Project Specific Strong Application
Equipment Complexity Lower Lower Higher

A standalone Drilling Mud Desander fits projects where high-capacity secondary sand removal is the main requirement.

A desilter targets finer solids.

A Drilling Mud Cleaner combines desander hydrocyclones, desilter hydrocyclones and a recovery shaker for broader solids treatment and greater drilling fluid recovery.

The shale shaker operates earlier in the process and removes larger drilled cuttings through mechanical screening.

Together, these products form a staged drilling fluid solids control system.

Skid Mounted, Mud Tank Mounted, Replacement and Custom Desanders

A Skid Mounted Drilling Mud Desander provides a standalone package for new mud systems, drilling rig upgrades and equipment replacement.

The skid can integrate hydrocyclones, feed and overflow manifolds, valves, piping, pressure monitoring, a centrifugal feed pump and an optional recovery shaker.

A Mud Tank Mounted Desander installs directly on the drilling fluid tank system. The feed pump draws mud from the selected upstream compartment, while treated overflow returns to the required downstream compartment.

For existing rigs, SGPE manufactures Replacement Drilling Mud Desander packages around the original structural and hydraulic interfaces.

Replacement engineering considers mounting points, equipment height, hydrocyclone quantity, feed and overflow connections, pump location, tank arrangement, solids discharge direction and maintenance space.

Custom packages can also cover processing capacity, manifold arrangement, feed-pump package, underflow recovery system, skid design, mud-tank integration, connection orientation and maintenance access.

For offshore projects, marine corrosion protection and project-specific electrical arrangements can be incorporated into the equipment package.

Customers planning a retrofit can provide the existing equipment nameplate, GA drawing, dimensions and site photographs for dimensional matching.

Drilling Mud Desander Manufacturer and Supplier – SGPE

SGPE manufactures oilfield drilling and solids-control equipment for international drilling projects.

For a Drilling Mud Desander project, the engineering scope extends beyond supplying individual hydrocyclone cones. The equipment is configured around the drilling fluid process, hydraulic requirements and rig interface.

Supply options include new desanders, replacement Oilfield Desanders, land-rig packages, offshore systems, skid-mounted equipment and mud-tank-mounted configurations.

Matched centrifugal pumps, underflow recovery packages, customized piping interfaces, replacement hydrocyclones and wear components are also available.

For larger projects, the desander can be supplied together with upstream and downstream drilling fluid solids control equipment.

This approach allows drilling contractors, rig builders, oilfield service companies and EPC contractors to coordinate flow capacity, hydraulics and installation interfaces with one supplier.

Drilling Mud Desander Price and Sourcing Factors

A Drilling Mud Desander price cannot be compared accurately from nominal GPM alone.

Quote Factor Influence on Configuration
Required Flow Rate Determines Cone Quantity and Package Size
500 / 1000 / 1500 GPM Class Defines Basic Capacity
Direct Discharge / Recovery Shaker Changes Equipment Configuration
Feed Pump Adds Matched Hydraulic Package
WBM / OBM / SBM Influences Mud-Recovery Strategy
Land / Offshore Influences Structure and Coating
Skid / Tank Mounted Changes Installation Arrangement
Hazardous Area Influences Electrical Configuration
Custom Connections Changes Piping Fabrication
Replacement Project Requires Dimensional Matching
Spare Parts Adds Commissioning / Operating Spares
Delivery Destination Influences Packing and Logistics Scope

Two Oilfield Desanders with the same nominal capacity can require different pumps, piping layouts, recovery systems and structural arrangements.

When sourcing a Drilling Mud Desander for sale, buyers should compare hydrocyclone material, actual flow capacity, pump compatibility, maintenance access, connection orientation, spare-parts availability and the manufacturer’s ability to support replacement or custom projects.

The lowest purchase price does not necessarily produce the lowest project cost if the equipment does not match the rig mud flow, piping arrangement or installation space.

How to Select the Right Drilling Mud Desander

Selection Factor Required Data Engineering Impact
Maximum Mud Flow GPM / m³/h Determines Hydrocyclone Quantity
Mud Density SG / ppg Affects Hydraulic Head
Mud Viscosity Operating Data Influences Cone Behavior
Hole Diameter in. / mm Indicates Flow and Solids Generation
ROP ft/h / m/h Indicates Solids-Loading Rate
Drilling Fluid WBM / Weighted WBM / OBM / SBM Determines Recovery Strategy
Rig Type Land / Offshore Determines Layout and Protection
Feed Pump Flow / Head / Motor Confirms Hydraulic Compatibility
Mud-Tank Layout GA / Dimensions Determines Mounting Arrangement
Available Space L × W × H Controls Equipment Footprint
Connections Size / Type / Position Controls Piping Integration
Hazardous Area Project Requirement Controls Electrical Configuration
Coating Land / Offshore Controls Corrosion Protection
Replacement Interface Drawings / Photos Controls Retrofit Design

A useful RFQ should include more than the required GPM. Mud properties, feed-pump data and installation information often determine whether two units with the same nominal rating will perform equally well.

SGPE Manufacturing and Quality Control

Each Drilling Mud Desander is manufactured around the approved project configuration.

Production starts with structural steel fabrication, welding and hydrocyclone manifold fabrication. Feed and overflow piping, valves and hydrocyclones are then assembled into the unit.

Where the package includes a dedicated feed pump or recovery shaker, these components are integrated before final inspection.

After fabrication, the equipment receives surface preparation and the specified protective coating.

Dimensional and mechanical checks follow, together with electrical checks on integrated packages. Before shipment, the completed unit receives a final functional inspection.

Replacement units also receive interface checks against the existing rig dimensions and piping arrangement.

Installation, Operation and Maintenance

Land-rig packages use an oilfield industrial coating system, while offshore units receive enhanced corrosion protection for marine service. Project-specific coating requirements can also be incorporated.

During installation, the feed pump draws drilling fluid from the selected upstream mud compartment and sends it into the hydrocyclone manifold.

Treated overflow returns to the active mud system or downstream treatment stage. Underflow either discharges directly or enters the recovery shaker.

Before startup, crews should verify structural mounting, pump rotation, suction condition, feed and overflow piping, hydrocyclone installation, apex condition and pressure monitoring.

Packages with recovery shakers also require checks of the electrical supply, shaker screen, vibration system and solids discharge path.

During drilling, operators should monitor feed pressure, pump suction, underflow pattern, manifold condition and treated-mud return.

Routine maintenance focuses on hydrocyclone wear, apex condition, vortex finder erosion, manifold seals, pressure gauges, pump wear parts and recovery-shaker screens.

Frequently Asked Questions About Drilling Mud Desanders

1. What is a Drilling Mud Desander used for in oil and gas drilling?

A Drilling Mud Desander removes abrasive sand-sized drilled solids from circulating drilling fluid after primary shale shaker treatment. The shale shaker removes larger cuttings first, while smaller formation particles can remain in the mud and continue through the circulation system. The desander uses hydrocyclone separation to remove much of this sand fraction before the fluid reaches finer solids-control equipment.

This secondary treatment helps reduce abrasive wear on centrifugal pumps, mud pumps, valves, liners and piping. It also lowers the coarse-solids load reaching desilters, mud cleaners and decanter centrifuges. Drilling Mud Desanders are commonly used on land rigs and offshore drilling units during surface-hole, intermediate-hole, high-ROP, directional and horizontal drilling operations.

2. What particle size can a 10 Inch Hydrocyclone Desander remove?

A typical 10 Inch Hydrocyclone Desander targets sand-sized drilled solids in approximately the 47–75 μm range, or about 0.047–0.075 mm, when operating under suitable hydraulic conditions.

The actual separation result does not depend on cone diameter alone. Feed pressure, mud density, viscosity, solids concentration, apex condition, vortex finder condition and internal hydrocyclone wear all influence performance. For this reason, a 10-inch Oilfield Desander should be selected together with the correct centrifugal feed pump and piping arrangement.

These hydrocyclones are widely used in drilling fluid solids control systems because they combine relatively high mud-processing capacity with effective removal of abrasive sand-sized particles.

3. Where does a Drilling Mud Desander operate in a solids control system?

A Drilling Mud Desander normally operates after the primary shale shaker and vacuum degasser and before finer solids-control equipment.

A typical drilling fluid treatment sequence is Shale Shaker → Vacuum Degasser → Drilling Mud Desander → Desilter or Drilling Mud Cleaner → Decanter Centrifuge.

This arrangement allows each machine to treat a different solids range. The shale shaker removes larger drilled cuttings, while the Hydrocyclone Desander removes the smaller sand-sized fraction that passes through the screens. A desilter or mud cleaner then handles finer solids, followed by the decanter centrifuge for finer solids control and mud conditioning.

This staged arrangement is suitable for both land drilling rigs and offshore solids-control systems.

4. What is the difference between a Drilling Mud Desander and a Desilter?

A Drilling Mud Desander and a desilter both use hydrocyclones, but they target different particle ranges and normally use different cone sizes.

A Drilling Mud Desander commonly uses 10-inch hydrocyclones for high-capacity removal of sand-sized drilled solids. A desilter normally uses smaller hydrocyclones, commonly around 4 inches, to remove finer particles further downstream in the solids-control process.

The two machines are therefore complementary rather than interchangeable. The desander handles the coarser sand fraction first, which reduces the load on the desilter and other finer separation equipment. On land rigs, offshore platforms, jack-up rigs and drillships, both stages can form part of a complete drilling fluid solids control system when the drilling program requires progressive solids removal.

5. What is the difference between a Drilling Mud Desander and a Drilling Mud Cleaner?

A standalone Drilling Mud Desander mainly provides secondary sand removal through one or more larger hydrocyclones.

A Drilling Mud Cleaner combines larger desander hydrocyclones, smaller desilter hydrocyclones and a vibrating recovery screen in one integrated system. This allows the mud cleaner to treat a broader solids range while also recovering reusable drilling fluid from hydrocyclone underflow.

A desander therefore remains a practical option when high-capacity sand removal is the main requirement. A mud cleaner becomes more suitable when the drilling program also requires finer solids separation and greater fluid recovery.

This distinction is especially important for weighted WBM, OBM and SBM systems, where recovering valuable drilling fluid can significantly reduce unnecessary mud loss.

6. How do I choose between a 500, 1000 and 1500 GPM Drilling Mud Desander?

The first selection factor is the maximum drilling fluid circulation rate. A 500 GPM Drilling Mud Desander normally uses one 10-inch hydrocyclone, a 1000 GPM unit uses two, and a 1500 GPM system uses three.

However, nominal GPM should not be the only selection criterion. Mud density, viscosity, hole diameter, expected ROP, solids loading, feed-pump performance, suction conditions, piping resistance and available installation space also influence the final configuration.

Lower-flow land rigs may use a single-cone unit, while large surface-hole sections, high-ROP drilling and higher-flow offshore operations may require dual- or triple-cone arrangements. SGPE selects the hydrocyclone bank and feed system around actual drilling conditions rather than catalogue capacity alone.

7. Can a Drilling Mud Desander process WBM, weighted WBM, OBM and SBM?

Yes. SGPE configures Drilling Mud Desander systems for Water-Based Mud, weighted WBM, Oil-Based Mud and Synthetic-Based Mud.

For conventional unweighted WBM, a direct-discharge desander often provides a simple and effective sand-removal solution. Weighted WBM requires more attention to fluid recovery because hydrocyclone underflow can carry useful weighting material together with unwanted formation solids.

For OBM and SBM, a Drilling Mud Desander with recovery shaker is generally more suitable because it helps return reusable drilling fluid to the active mud system and reduces unnecessary fluid loss.

Recovery configurations are particularly valuable on offshore platforms, jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles, drillships and directional or horizontal wells where drilling fluid has a higher operating value.

8. What feed pressure does a Hydrocyclone Desander require?

Typical feed pressure for the Hydrocyclone Desander configurations covered on this page is around 0.25–0.40 MPa, equal to approximately 2.5–4.0 bar or 36–58 psi.

The centrifugal feed pump must provide enough flow and hydraulic head to maintain a stable vortex inside every active hydrocyclone. The final hydraulic requirement also depends on mud density, viscosity, circulation rate, suction conditions, piping length, elevation difference, valves, fittings and pressure losses.

Insufficient feed pressure can weaken separation efficiency, while excessive pressure can increase hydrocyclone wear and cause unnecessary liquid discharge through the underflow.

For reliable field performance, SGPE matches the Desander Feed Pump, hydrocyclone quantity and piping arrangement as one hydraulic system.

9. Can SGPE supply replacement 10 Inch Desander Hydrocyclones and spare parts?

Yes. SGPE supplies replacement 10 Inch Desander Hydrocyclones and related wear components for both new equipment and existing oilfield solids-control systems.

Replacement supply can include complete polyurethane hydrocyclones, apex components, vortex finders, seals and clamps. The hydrocyclone body and internal wear components should be inspected regularly because long-term exposure to abrasive drilled solids gradually changes the internal geometry and can reduce separation performance.

For replacement projects, customers can provide the existing cone size, equipment nameplate, drawings or clear photographs. This information helps SGPE match the required hydrocyclone and connection arrangement.

Replacement cone supply is available for land rigs, offshore drilling packages and existing mud-tank-mounted desander systems.

10. When should I choose a Drilling Mud Desander with a recovery shaker?

A direct-discharge desander works well for many conventional unweighted WBM applications where the main objective is high-capacity sand removal.

A Drilling Mud Desander with recovery shaker becomes more valuable when the drilling fluid itself has greater economic value. This includes weighted WBM, OBM, SBM and high-density mud systems.

The hydrocyclones first concentrate the drilled solids. The underflow then reaches the vibrating recovery screen, where larger rejected particles discharge while reusable drilling fluid passes through and returns to the active mud system.

This arrangement is particularly suitable for offshore drilling, directional wells, horizontal wells, extended-reach drilling and other operations where reducing mud loss and recovering usable fluid are important operating objectives.

11. Can SGPE manufacture a replacement Drilling Mud Desander for an existing drilling rig?

Yes. SGPE manufactures Replacement Drilling Mud Desander packages for existing land rigs, offshore platforms, jack-up rigs, semi-submersibles and drillships.

Replacement equipment can be configured around the original structural and hydraulic interfaces so that the new unit fits the existing mud system with minimal changes. Important information includes the original equipment nameplate, GA drawing, overall and mounting dimensions, hydrocyclone quantity, feed and overflow connection sizes and positions, feed-pump data, mud-tank layout and clear site photographs.

SGPE can also match equipment height, skid arrangement, solids discharge direction, maintenance access and piping orientation. This approach is suitable for rig refurbishment, solids-control upgrades and replacement of older or discontinued desander equipment.

12. How can I get a Drilling Mud Desander price and quotation from SGPE?

For an accurate Drilling Mud Desander price and quotation, provide the required processing capacity, maximum mud circulation rate, drilling fluid type, mud density, viscosity, rig type, hole section and expected operating conditions.

Installation information is also important. Please provide available space, feed-pump data, feed and overflow connections, electrical supply, required mounting arrangement, quantity and delivery destination. Offshore projects should also include corrosion-protection and hazardous-area requirements.

For a replacement Drilling Mud Desander, send the existing nameplate, GA drawing, mud-tank layout, overall dimensions, pump data and site photographs.

Based on this information, SGPE will select the suitable hydrocyclone quantity, feed system, underflow recovery arrangement and installation interfaces, then provide the corresponding technical proposal and commercial quotation for your project.
